Chemotype is a 6-digit number representing the ratio of kavalatones to each other. The numbers are listed in order from the most abundant kavalactone to the least abundant.
The major kavalactones:
A kava lab report will usually include a chemotype number, such as 462351, which can give an idea of the experience that a specific kava will provide. The first three numbers of the chemotype are the main defining numbers for the experience. Kava starting with 4 will typically lean toward a heady and euphoric experience, whereas those starting with 2 will be slightly heavier and sedative. Kava with number 5 closer to the beginning of the chemotype will be very heavy. The percentage of kavalactones will indicate the strength of the experience. Non-noble kava often start with 25 or 52, although this is not a hard and fast rule.
